Anya: What an adorable collection! I’d wear everything from it :D
code_name_kohaku: These pieces are stunningly simple yet the patterns and colors are great. I love the newspaper scarf and the red lace mini…very kawaii. THese clothes look like they would be comfortable as well as versatile.
Kjeld Duits: @Lactose Intoler-Art: Yes, as always, you are very well-informed. Shida is still very new. He only graduated in 2001 (from Nagoya Mode Gakuen) and last year participated in the SHINMAI Creator’s Project (a JFW program for new designers). We never cover the SHINMAI Creator’s Project, so this is actually the first time Shida has been mentioned on JAPANESE STREETS. By the way, I just discovered when you do a search for this year’s Japan Fashion Week, the JAPANESE STREETS articles are on top. Amazingly, way above the JFW site itself! LOL

uye surana: that top is so sweet!! i love the sleeves. haven’t seen anything quite like that before <3 uye surana
Kjeld Duits: @Lactose Intoler-Art: I thought so, too. It is very light and cheerful. There was at least one more show with such lightness and cheerfulness. They both exuded hope and positivity. They made me think of a day at the beach at the French Riviera.
Lactose Intoler-Art: This is a very interesting collection, and I’m not sure I can pinpoint exactly why. It has made me take a double take…But there is something unique with this even amongst all of the uniqueness that we’ve seen lately.

Lala: I actually don’t know if I like this or not. I’m still surprised by all the classic waistlines.
Kjeld Duits: @rat: The Keita Maruyama show was my favorite this season.
rat: the best collection in a long time! i love it

Kjeld Duits: @Aga: That’s the thing about Japanese fashion, there is no history and politics in Japanese fashion. Especially not when Western elements are used. Fashion here is rarely, if ever, used to make political or social statements.
Aga: Unfortunately some of the pieces in the collection are not punk[y] enough but too heavily influenced by skin heads (60’s -90’s subculture often associated with fascism, right wing and racism), particularly the accessories are too reminiscent of nazi crosses, (pinned in same place). I agree this is a hard collection. Hard to understand why such promotion, not all things are pretty and some elements should not be borrowed with such ease, little more engagement with the history and meanings of what you are actually appropriating is needed here DISCOVERED!. I would have thought that Docs (Dr. Martens) and bleached jeans would have been enough to show the 80’s influence.
Nadine: So eclectic. I say no to the super high wasted pants but hey that is just me. I don’t know if I could take a guy seriously in a pair of those. The rest of the looks were very tuff.

Kjeld Duits: @Sarah: It’s body paint that’s made to look like a tattoo.
Sarah: I love all of the pieces in this! I would wear a lot of them :) I especially love the designs on the model’s necks, are they tattoos? I noticed that the designers have them too.
Kjeld Duits: @Sierra: They ARE!
