I usually don’t cover foreign brands in Japan, but this is happening right in my frontyard, so I can’t really ignore it…

Unveiled at the Kobe Collection fashion show on February 27, Barneys Japan launched I am Agyness Deyn for Barneys Green at Barneys’ new store in Kobe last Friday, March 5th. The Barneys store in Tokyo’s Shinjuku will sell the line from March 13.

Really interesting that Barneys New York sells the line in Kobe before allowing it to hit the shelves anywhere else in the world.

I am Agyness Deyn for Barneys Green features dresses, knits, scarves, t-shirts and leggings, retailing from 18,900 to 27,300 yen (USD 209-302).

As part of Barneys’ environmental campaign Go Green Go, a percentage of the line’s revenue will be used for planting of trees in inner Mongolia.

The new Kobe store is naturally not limited to the Agyness Deyn line. It offers a wide collection of both men’s and women’s wear. Some of the items you can find at Barneys Kobe:

Barneys Japan is one of two Western clothing chains that started up stores in West Japan this week-end.

Yesterday, Swedish fashion giant H&M opened in neighboring Osaka. It is located right next to Ebisu Bashi on the border of Shinsaibashi and Namba and within walking distance of Amerika Mura, an excellent location for a store selling fashion at low prices.

The new shop is H&M’s 2,000th outlet in the world, so they offered canvas bags and t-shirts to the first 2,000 customers, while selling jeans at 2,000 yen.

In spite of the very heavy rain, some 2,500 people lined up! See also the Yomiuri photo of the long line showing the sea of H&M umbrellas.
