As loyal visitors to the JAPANESE STREETS photo section have known for years, very few Japanese are satisfied with just a single strap. Many have their phones loaded with them. It is not uncommon that the bundle of straps totally overpowers the phone.
A recent survey by internet.com and pointOn research found that more than 65% of the 1,000 respondents had one or more straps attached to their mobile phone. Three quarters of them had purchased these straps themselves, while almost 11% went through the trouble of making them. These incredible numbers clearly show how popular mobile phone straps are in Japan.
Many Japanese phone strap users have specific favorites. Almost 40% use straps featuring characters, while some 21% use good luck charms. Some 10% use straps with Swarovski chrystals, which shows how popular these have become over the past few years. Ten years ago or so they were virtually unknown.
Here is a breakdown of the most popular mobile phone straps in Japan.
