As the company says: “W+K Tokyo Lab is all about being in Tokyo now, using the power of the city to attract the most innovative creative collaborators from around the world… Simply, it is about good music, fresh visuals and new concepts of creative expression.”
The outfit, whose parent company is cool Portland based creative agency Wieden and Kennedy, asked the various artists who have collaborated with them over the years to think of Tokyo and what the city means to them. The title “Ten” (点) means “points” in Japanese and the show is basically a collection of what they think are the most interesting and inspiring points about the capital.
The exhibition has some fascinating art work, visuals and music on display and is part of Tokyo Lab’s 5th anniversary celebrations which include the release of a DVD + Book + Blog as well as a live event on July 24th at Tokyo’s Liquid Room featuring some of the label’s artists such as Hifana, DJ Uppercut and Jemapur.
The opening party was a dazzling bash full of celebs, artists, designers and visual creators. While the champagne and chat flowed on the first floor the creative spaces upstairs were full of the latest artwork from the likes of Peter Vattanatham, Ian Lynam and Christopher Hutchinson and were as eclectic and powerful as you get. Mix that with visual remixes of previous albums and majestic tunes and the night can be considered a resounding success.
