At the time I was impressed by the very cool image of a model with a shaved head doing some kind of acrobatic pose while wearing skinny jeans and a sweater with super long sleeves. Tres interessante.
Last season I insisted on going to the show and they presented some casual athletic wear with graphic tees and lots of neon. It was nice, but a far cry from what I first saw in WWD.
This season they snuck in a show during Japan Fashion Week off-schedule, and it was thankfully a return to their (admittedly still young) roots with a sleek collection of skinny suits and dress shirts in bold colors.
Despite it being an exhibit for buyers-only at the time , I procured a few moments with the designer Ryujiro Tamaki to get a closer look at the details.
Tamaki is the image incarnate of his brand easily looking a million bucks (or, yen) in a skinny suit, slicked back hair and wedge heel loafers.
Those loafers were one of my favorite pieces of the collection and a version in pretty turquoise –a huge trend color– were very modern--and give you guys a nice little lift, too.
Not so nice on the eyes were the optical illusion prints on dress-shirts and t-shirts although I imagine any guy pulling one off would be the center of (good) attention.
There were also aviator jackets and aluminum frame sunglasses to go with them. I would take a guy in these modern clothes any day of the week.
