Asia’s largest art event rules over Tokyo for two days

JAPANESE STREETS went to visit the 41st Design Festa at Tokyo Big Sight. Over 10,000 artists exhibit, buy and sell work at this gigantic art event. Design Festa is held two times a year, so if you missed this one, start saving for the next one later this year!

THE ART

Teiso April 2002 — three friends who create cute illustrations of young women.

Mirai Mizue is an animation director who also creates very detailed almost psychedelic illustrations.

Shigeyoshi Tsukahara creates anime and has released three main ones. He calls his creations “Japanese Steampunk.”

HexeÄuge is the brand of artist Ayako Ashizawa. She creates illustrations, accessories and extremely cute ears. She sells them online and ships abroad.

TOMO creates very modern illustrations in prime colors.

Nouzui Hakase creates a bizarre world of characters pulled from a Showa Era (1924-1989) Japan.

HIDDEN DOLL is the brainchild of Japanese designer Hazure. With the help of her model Taki, she photographs a wonderful imaginary dreamworld.

Modelica creates a wide variety of both street style and elegant hats.

candynoir is an old favorite.

machu kutsu enriches the world with a selection of playful footwear.
