Kjeld Duits About the Author

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Hard to decide – I especially like the coat (would buy it) with the whales and the shoes: OMG some are sculptures, pieces of art – wonderful! I wish all artists the best for their future, hopefully they will find a job to create lots and lots of beautiful fashion.

@Kiki: I’m glad I photographed the coat with the whales, Kiki. I didn’t think I could really get its beauty across in a photograph, so I initially didn’t shoot it. But then went back. Glad I did! Hopefully we get to see some of these names again in the future!

I love all those gorgeous designs from the textile department students. Well done! They also all look like things I would like to wear…unlike the shoes which mostly look like instruments of torture…sculptural, yes, but not the sort of thing to wear on my typical daily 5-mile walk around Tokyo.

@Virginia: instruments of torture made me laugh. There were a lot of things I liked this time, it was really great fun to visit. Would love to shoot some of these clothes with people in it. ^_-

Asuka Tanaka is definitely my favorite here. Curious if those are rats on the second piece? if so I love it even more.
