Norio Surikabe presented a subtle and paired-down collection full of intricate detail straight from the costumier’s imagination.

Accordion-pleating on shoulders, frill-back skirts with moon shaped insert and parson-style frock coats were the main themes of Norio Surikabe’s collection. He set salt and pepper grey, maroon, military green and bright ginger pieces against black canvas-like sophisticated silhouettes of simple funnel-neck tops and wide-leg or cropped pants.

The focus of the collection was centered on the cut of the sleeve, whether it be a tired draped chiffon sleeve of a trapeze dress, a pod shaped sleeve of a three-quarter-length swing coat, or a fringed mohair boucle cropped knitted jacket.

As shows go, the collection was not high-impact, but it did what it said it wanted to do, show beauty in its purest and simplest form. The range was wearable, elegant and intelligent in its detail.
