Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Comment (日本語もOK)

I found myself taking additional looks at her. This is a tightly composed ensemble in the way it repeats forms in pleats and braids, and uses a restrained palette of colors. The hair and hair ornaments are quite technically engineered and integrated. The red makeup repeats the subtle variety of reds in the bows. It is feminine in referencing and re-imagining the sailor school uniform in a way that is part modern (leggings), slightly mad (the bow).
