Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

@MissMolly & Kimi: I think we may see some more 50s stuff. Mad Men hasn’t reached Japan, but I think many young people will feel attracted to this style and will feel inspired by people like Juri.

Has this vintage look not really come through Japan yet? Because it seems like it’s been done to death in the USA.

@MissMolly: No Mad Men on TV here, and the 50s doesn’t have the same symbolic value here either. In the US it is seen as a golden age representing much of the best of the US. But remember that Japan still lay in ruins in those days and the 50s look represents an invader.
