JAPANESE STREETS POP UP STUDIO JUNE 2013

JAPANESE STREETS set up a Pop Up Studio in Harajuku at Design Festa Gallery during the last week of June.
We invited some 30 Harajuku street fashion icons to show us their 2013 summer looks.

More info at our blog.

Shironuri artist Minori started with shironuri about five years ago after being introduced to the art by a friend.
Shironuri, white make-up, was centuries long an accepted part of Japanese culture, widely used by actors and geisha.
Minori applies this traditional Japanese aesthetic in a totally modern and very unique way.
She finds her inspiration in nature and expresses that in her clothes, make-up and photography.
To me she is like a delicate fairy rising out of a field of flowers.

Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

She’s so beautiful I had to gasp as soon as I saw her photo. _ such an angel. And I love the fact that her twitter name is cute_minori, she acknowledges her cuteness which is a good thing. c:

@Essence: Minori is gorgeous, but I think that she meant the twitter name to be very tongue in cheek. ^_-

Minori is my absolute favorite Harajuku icon. She is so beautiful and humble. Every single outfit she puts together is a work of art.

She’s such an inspiration, I can’t imagine how it must feel to walk down the street and see her from a distance! I’ve been a fan of Minori for a very long time, and I remember the first time I saw her I was watching a video about fashion in Harajuku, and how tourists often come there to photograph all kinds of different fashions. It must have been at least five years ago!
I realise I got a bit carried away…anyway, I love these pictures and Minori is so sweet. ♥

She looks incredible! Otherworldly, elegant, just beautiful. I like the stoic poses she takes for the photos but I have to say that I really loved seeing her talk and smile in the video. There’s something really fantastic about the juxtaposition of her casual self and her mystical appearance. I am so inspired!

Wow this is a style I had NEVER heard of before. Thanks for introducing it to me, Shironuri sounds super interesting! It’s like visual kei’s fairy counterpart ^^

@MissMolly: Minori’s style of shironuri has a fairy aspect to it, but there are many forms of shironuri. Did you see the other people I shot ?
