My Summer Style

JAPANESE STREETS set up a Pop Up Studio in Harajuku at Design Festa Gallery during the last week of June. We invited some 30 Harajuku street fashion icons to show us their 2013 summer looks.

Arika is one of the people whose photographs and interview we weren’t able to edit right away. Better late than never!

Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

I love her eye make-up and her shoes! Wow, and her work is awesome too. :))

@Kimi: Yes, I thought so, too. Love the Jeffrey Campbell shoes, and Arika’s make-up is always awesome. It’s tough to go over the top and still make it look good, but she pulls it off.

Her T-shirt appears to be a Grateful Dead T-shirt. The dancing bear is a long-time Dead symbol incorporating the symbolic state animal. So nice to see this touch of historical psychedelia in Japan. If scored at a concert, shows experience over purchasing power.

@Tom P: Oh, wow. I wonder if Arika even knows the Grateful Dead… I think she probably got this t-shirt at a used clothing store.

Her hair and makeup are very Lisa Frank!

@Ms. Jody: Just checked out their site. Wasn’t aware that all that colorful stuff came mostly from one company. Arika probably knows, but I’ll tell her. ^^

Please do! I’d love to know what she says about the Lisa Frank stuff.

@Ms.Jody: Just got Arika’s response. She says she had seen it before and finds it really cute. ^^ Thanks for mentioning it.
