JAPANESE STREETS POP UP STUDIO JUNE 2013

JAPANESE STREETS set up a Pop Up Studio in Harajuku at Design Festa Gallery during the last week of June.
We invited some 30 Harajuku street fashion icons to show us their 2013 summer looks.

More info at our blog.

Shioka is into shironuri (white powdered face) and also attracted to Japan’s Taisho (1912-1926)
and Showa (1926-1989) periods.
She tries to incorporate aspects of these periods into her look.

Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Wow, she’s such a cool person with a calming voice. :) I love her sense of independence, and how she thought of such an amazing ensemble with just the Japanese Flag and Strawberries for a theme. Such creativity challenges me. Just because one has Versace and G&B from head to toe, doesn’t mean they are creative and thus fashionable. That’s why I check out Japanese Streets so often. Lots of originality!!! So cool! :D

@Kimi: Thank you. Shioka surely has her own style as you mention. And it’s very deliberate. She doesn’t just slap things together.

i absolutely love her look! shioka’s outfit is very well put together. there are lots of different accessories but it doesn’t make her outfit look messy or too heavy. i can see that she has spent time planning her outfit, and the final result looks amazing! her style and personality are very inspiring. i’m looking forward to seeing more of shioka’s outfits!! :)

@Kat: Shioka changed into her outfit at our Pop Up Studio, and it took her quite some time to get ready. I was deeply impressed that she had prepared all of this at home in advance.

I love her strawberry philosophy and that she likes things with “a tarnished beauty.” Very inspiring!

@fullofstars: Yes, those are the kind of things you’d never know from just looking at photographs. I’m really glad I did these interviews.
