Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

It’s like retro, but it’s also kinda pop…. love it! Her jacket is so cool and cheap!

@Maria: Yuki’s theme was wafu — notice the tights and the fan necklace.

@KD: oh.. I see… what does wafu stands for?

Funny, but when I saw her pictures i immediately had to think of the traditional african clothing. I guess it’s because of her headband and the big necklace she’s wearing and all those patterns..^^
The fringe suits her well, it has a very glamarous feeling to it, especially with her eyeliner.

@Maria: Wafu (和風) means Japanese (Wa) Style (Fu), usually it means traditional style.
@Nyurah: Yes, I also felt there was kind of an ethnic feel to Yuki’s look.

@KD: ah! like washoku (和食)! I get it, thank you ^^
@Nyurah: Wow, it does look ethnic, the way she styled the headband and even the turtle neck…! :O

@Maria: Yes, exactly the same wa/和.

@Maria and Kjeld: It’s quite amazing somehow that her outfit manages to look both wafu and ethinc (i knew there was a word for this that I forgot^^) at the same time, though those styles are completely different..!!

@Nyurah: Yes, Yuki did a great job. We talked about matching the wafu tights up with a short kimono. Maybe next time. ^_-

@Kjeld: Yes, she surely did! Would love to see it! ^^

I really like the vintage details in this outfit: pearls, her headkerchief, the jacket, those pilgrim shoes. awesome.
