Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

That’s a very interesting coat. Just like her. ^^ I love how she laughs, do you get to shot more smiles when you already know the person?

@Maria: I think many people are a bit tense at first. They often tell me they were nervous. It must be quite intimidating when you are not a model to have a tall foreigner carrying a huge camera shoot photographs of you in full view of everybody on the street. Hiromi always fell at ease with me, many people do indeed relax when they get to know me. Also, usually I do not post the photos of people smiling. ^^

@KD: I guess Hiromi was smiling in all of the shots ^^ // I feel like I asked this before… why do you not post smiling photos?

@Maria: Yes, it is obvious, eh. There are several reasons for not posting people smiling. The main one is that many Japanese have pretty bad teeth… ^_-
