Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Her hairstyle and the peter pan collar are a great combo. So so pretty ~ :3

I love how she curls the sides of her hair like that, I’ve seen it a lot lately (as well as berets) and I really love how that looks. I also really like that she made a warm red and the blue go so well together – something that I don’t normally like.

I like the color combination of the navy and crimson. The little pops of white and tan really balance the entire look. I like the two-tone lapel, too.

@Maria, Jenni, Amber: Glad you like Mami’s look. I usually shoot more extreme styles, but Bunka Fashion College has a wide array of looks and I like introducing other styles. There are so many to choose from in Tokyo!

It seems like Dr. Martens are really popular in Japan.
I’d love to have a pair for myself, but on Switzerland it’s quite difficult to get your hands on some… And well, bought new thei’re also rather expensive^^

@ Nyurah: They’re expensive in Japan, too, but they are not difficult to get. There are shops selling them everywhere and they often have huge collections. You can find them at used clothing stores, too. There they are a lot cheaper. ^_-

@Kjeld: Great to know! I will keep my eyes open for them when I visit Tokyo in spring :)
