Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

I really like that blouse! I wish my country was colder so I could use that coat. Her haircut is really cool ;)

Her outfit is so feminine and cute. I especially like the bright pink of the blouse. Where I live this would be considered very trendy. ^^

@Amber: Where I live too ^^ In Nicaragua people like bright colours.
KD, she matches this website’s concept perfectly, pink, black and white! :D

@Amber: Where do you live, Amber?
@Maria: LOL. Yeah, you’re right. I thought there was something different about these photos when I saw them on the page. I didn’t make the connection, but now I understand.

I love the contrast of her chic, modern outfit with her almost-Heian-feeling hair. :D

@Alexandra: I like how you described that: Heian-feeling hair!

I live in the United States. Right now, some of the local fashion circles are leaning toward sheer, feminine blouses and retro chic/modern classic. The young and trendy stores in town are selling pieces similar to Miss Karisawa’s outfit. However, you are more likely to see this particular look on stylish office workers. It might be considered a little dressy for class or a casual day out for students like myself. ^^

@Amber: When I lived in Hawaii I often felt that many Japanese were overdressed. Some Japanese tourists were dressed as if they were on their way to a dinner party instead of the beach. But in Tokyo it feels totally natural.
