Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Sometimes I wonder if people in Japan wear buttons with English on them and actually know what they say or if they wear the button just because they like it :D

@AJ Reese: Most people are swayed by the design, not the text which the majority usually doesn’t understand. It is a bit like how Japanese and Chinese characters are used in Western countries. I have seen some really strange Japanese characters on T-shirts, bags and as tattoos. Even many incorrect ones.

This whole outfit goes so well together!!! I like the ruffled skirt, and the leggings. And I want those shoes! Maasa is darling- I wish I looked that good with my cheeks puffed out.

Well luckily for me my father lived in Tokyo for 8 years and learned Japanese. So if I was ever to get a tattoo with Japanese symbols, he could tell me if they’re wrong or not ^^

@Alexandra: Choco is awesome. Each time I shoot her she is like a totally different person. The second time I met her I barely recognized her, so different did she look from the first shoot!
