Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Very interesting photos. I’m wondering what the overall concept was? To me this collection seems extremely confusing, but I don’t mean that in a negative way. I almost think that was the intention. You basically have an extreme variation in silhouette, textiles, colors, patterns, layering styles, masculine/feminine, and even pieces from “vintage” looks to ancient eras.

Maybe its about how people view fashion recently in various ways all thrown into one idea.

@Lactose Intoler-Art: I doubt whether there was one overall concept; although the first section appears to be related to old cultures. There are also at least three different projects presented in this show.

Oh my goodness..I just saw the caption now and realized what this was. SO sorry for that! No wonder I was finding no cohesion. I looked at each piece a lot longer this time. There is definitely a lot of variation and talent here! Was there a particular collection in particular that stood out to you? I really like the super flat “Paradise” yellow top…The pastel collection with the dinosaur is also interesting to me as well. Lots of cool silhouettes too! I like the way pieces were cut from the designer of the military cap. (I’m guessing they’re the same?)

@Lactose Intoler-Art: It is easy to overlook the short description! I like the collection by 鈴木将歩久 (the names of the designers, or brand, are listed above the series of images).
