Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Some weeks ago I learned the word 珍しい. It was the first thing that came to my mind when I watched the kimono.

Cool! This type of fabric is very popular here in Brazil. Especially for cushions, sofas and decoration in general. I have no idea of the name of the fabric in english, tough. In portuguese it’s called “chita”. It’s generally a rough, cheap cotton fabric and can be found in almost any fabric store.
Some pictures here

@Maria: Yes, this is indeed 珍しい. I have never seen a kimono like this before and i have lived in japan most of my life!
@Ana: Cool! Thanks for the tip and the link. I was wondering where this came from. Chita is new for me.

Oh love this! She looks so good in super short hair. Have never seen a piercing like that on the throat before…

Hirari is always so cool. I love how she used to have such long hair, and then one say she just cut it off! And the piercing is nothing you see often, but it looks so good on her! ^^

Hirari always surprises. Just when you think you got her she comes up with something new. ^^

I was so preoccupied with the kimono that I almost didn’t notice her throat piercing. Wow! Talk about eye-catching. But seriously, everything from her hair to her shoes is super bold, but it all works together so well.
