Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

I like her so much. She is so cute and thoug cool. I like that her outfit seem to be a little messi on the first sight but then revealing its concept after a while of looking at it. It looks a little kimono-like.

@cindy: Shibori is a very common Japanese dyeing technique, similar to what we know as tie-dye. At Japanese temple markets you can buy lots of old shibori items. I think Takuya Angel was inspired by that.

She looks older than the last time you shot her… Now she looks 17 instead of 13 :P
It’s so fun to look at her shots, I hope you find her more often!
I want those ice cream accessories!!! >_<

@Maria: Yes, the lighting made Choco look older somehow. I couldn’t quite capture her incredible cuteness.

Amazing shots again! I always love seeing unique takes on traditional Japanese clothing mixed with personal/modern style. I really like Japanese 80s style too…For example, like the shop MOUSE in Koenji..Using a lot of originally “Japan only” characters and bands as style influences, but still very 80s. (Think Sanrio, The Plastics, etc) Sorry! Sudden burst of what’s inspiring me from these photos. The old Keroppi character (I think that’s his name) mixed with the kimono and those platforms got me going!

@MaliceInWonderland: Thank you! That was fun. I had Choco jump up and down several times. Therefore the exultation on her face. A bit like a runner’s high, I think. ^_-
