Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

The tights blew my mind, love ‘em!
So many textures and fabrics that I wish I were there to touch them xD

@Maria: The textures were what attracted me to this collection as well, and it was the first thing everybody that was there mentioned after the show. I especially love the deep red color, and the triangular skirt that looks like it is made of huge flower petals.

This line reminds me a great deal of the F/W 2011 and S/S 2012 Alexander McQueen lines respectively:

It’s gorgeous, no doubt, but I feel a bit like it’s been done before.

@ MissMolly: Yes, after the show I heard several people say that it reminded them of Alexander McQueen. Regardless, I am in love with the small triangular red skirt on top, though. ^_-

I agree with MissMolly about looking like McQueen; nevertheless, MissMolly shared links of McQueen by Sarah… I think that Somarta is more similar to the real McQueen rather to Sarah’s designs.

I also think I have seen this before. I know where. In McQueen and in Eiko Ikishioka. Nowadays it’s common to think we’ve seen it all, isn’t it? Most of the things that surround us are just things inspired in the past adapted to the present ^^’‘
oh my! I write too much! Sorry :/

@Maria: We also see so much these days that I think it has become impossible to remember it all, but it still influences you…

I met the designers in person when I was in Tokyo last year. Love them, love their work! Hirokawa-san おめでとうございます! :)

@Maria, I do understand that people draw influence from just about anything and everything, and I have no problems with such a thing. But there’s a fine line between being influenced by someone, and then directly taking specific cues of material, silhouette, color palette, and craftsmanship all at once from one designer in particular. Everything from the colors (simplistic I know, but in combination with the rest…), to some of the techniques used, the styling with hair and makeup, and even the bone/web-like headdresses are similar.

It feels less like an homage to McQueen, and more like a continuation of his line.

@Miss Molly: I think it is a great homage ^^ In fact, Hirokawa should have taken care of the House McQueen instead of Burton <33
