Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Nihei is the girl who keeps decora alive, love it ^^
I want to steal all her plushies! She should make a make-up tutorial of those lower eyelashes, they are just awesome!!!

@Maria: Nihei was wondering if the eyelashes weren’t a bit too much. She’ll be very happy to hear that you like them so much!

Kawaii! I like this style a lot. And eyelashes are a very nice piece of art on their own. I don’t know if they match the set as a whole though… umm….

Is she 35 years old? In Italy, if you’re 35 (or less) and you like to dress in a similar way, everyone would think that you are totally crazy. I’d love to live in Japan even for this reason: in your free time you can be who you are.

@Emma: That is funny, because the majority (if not all) of Japanese people believe that there is more freedom outside Japan. I guess the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence… ^_-

@Emma & Kjeld: Well, I think it depends on what kind of freedom you’re talking about. But in question of style, there is clearly a higher acceptance in Japan than in many other countries. My opinion at least^^

@Nyurah: Yes, freedom is indeed a difficult work to define. But the aesthetics of fashion and style are definitely different here. I am glad I can be here to document it. ^^
