Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

With Takashi Kashimoto’s collection I started listening to 60’s rock music in my head, sooo cool!
Eri Hasegawa was like going to an aquarium, beautiful.
I like Takayuki Toki & Haruna Horie’s collections as the most sellable ones ^^

@Dianne Portal: Yes, I also love seeing what the next generation of designers has in store for us.

@Maria: Takashi Kashimoto’s work did the same for me. I love his playful cheerfulness. The world is too serious these days; we need someone like Kashimoto to cheer us up.

Eri Hasegawa was like going to an aquarium, beautiful. — Very poetic and imaginative description!

Haruna Horie’s work kind of surprised me. I had not expected to see gothic influences in this fashion show. Good to see, there are still young designers interested in that kind of design.

@KD: Indeed. Kashimoto’s designs made me think of him as the next Jeremy Scott.
Why did you not expect gothic? Are the streets less gothic lately? I had seen images of very young girls wearing gothic styles, so I expect it stays for a little bit longer. ^^

@Maria: I had just not expected that someone would use Gothic for a graduation project for Bunka. It seems a bit risky somehow.
@London & Paris: Yes, it was a fun show!

@KD: Well, anything can be risky if you do not create something with a fresh twist. I think Horie’s design are a modern gothic, it even makes me think a little bit of Alexander Wang. ^^
