Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Oh my gosh, Kjeld-san, I absolutely LOVE these shots and this guys style. The first shot is amazing, with the other guy looking at him in the background.

The whole attitude of that first shot is the exact mood I love to portray in some of my illustrations.
This guy just has that whole essence of what I love about that area of Harajuku by Cat street and Lawson. The many layers, mixed patterns, somewhat of a current “grunge” look, and not too bright, but still extremely interesting.

@Lactose Intoler-Art: Now you mention it, Takuma actually looks like one of your illustrations come alive. He has the essence of your work. Even in the way he stands and looks. He had a very interesting expression on his face—I actually took lots of close-ups, but have only shown a few.

Great outfit! In the first shot, JYP 29 000 were spent, after that, almost everything is present (^^”)
He looks like a fun and interesting person. I can tell because of his face expression, and those cool glasses ^ . ^
I wish that kind of Puma shoes were here! Nice~

@Maria: In the first shot, JYP 29 000 was spent, after that, almost everything is a present (^^”) — Haha. You are right. I had not noticed that myself!

Haha, thank you so much Kjeld-san! I’m glad you feel the same way. Yes, that’s the thing I’m sure…You have to choose the best of the best! I’d always be interested in seeing some of the others as well of my favorite shots.

Do you happen to know which shop he worked at? I’m guessing its a Ura-Hara Vintage/remake shop! Super cool.

@Lactose Intoler-Art: He works at WEGO. That company is owned by Hitoshi Tsujimoto, one of the people whom I interviewed for The Quest for Perfect Jeans. Tsujimoto actually lived very close to me before I moved to Tokyo. Everything is connected. ^_-

Everything is SO connected, it almost freaks me out a bit, haha. That’s great! Sometimes WEGO has REALLY awesome shop staff..This guy is definitely included as far as style goes (in my opinon!)
