Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

@Shinomi: Wonderful, eh!
@Maria: More luck than wisdom, Maria. I did select that location for shooting Kumamiki, but I didn’t realize how well it fit the giraffe.

@Maria: Haha, perhaps. I strongly believe in the executive power of the subconscious.

@enzo: Me, too. I love it when young people adapt age old items to their needs.
@✮Yumebi✮: The enormous attention to detail is what makes Japanese fashion Japanese, don’t you think? I find it really inspiring and pay much more attention to details myself these days.

I think that if you look at street fashion from every country the unifying thread(pun intended) that makes it work is the sheer inspiration and flair that comes from creating something from what you have so to speak, as opposed to having an unlimited budget to pull it together. Its more the inventiveness of japanese street fashion that sets it apart from others, that tend to be more inhibited and toned down. The ageless face of anime, with its appeal to all, lends a fair amount of inspiration that opens up one to , anything is possible, and as we see, is made possible by these you photgraph here, tis quite a fun site and one that will always remain fresh, as the street is where the fertile ground is.
