Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

I see more and more people over 30 years old coming lately on this site or is it just me looking forward to see them more often Mr. Duits? hahah :)
Anyway every picture of people this age are making me happier every day :)
Gok Wan (he is a British fashion consultant) recently visited my country and during press conference something important came out: Gok puts a lot of work to convince others that everyone has right to look good and feel good – no matter what is your age, weight, shape and so on… That I think is quite something we need in this photoshop world where perfect bodies and age below 20 rules the right to feel good with yourself. So… keep taking pictures of people in every age! :)

This is downright classic, I love it. If she’s 35 now she would have been a teen when decora first became popular, correct? It’s nice to see you can grow up and continue to enjoy these things. haha, Now I’ve come up with a whole backstory for her. She’s so interesting and pulls off the look so well. It’s beautiful.

The friggin’ coolest 35 year old I’ve ever seen. I’m 26 and this gives me hope for my future! _ I love her wig and the kitty hood and the eyeball hair clips!

@Monik, Meg & CodeNameKohaku: I had absolutely no idea Nihei-san was 35; I never felt or noticed it during the shoot, the Harajuku Fashion Walk or the party after the walk. I was probably even more surprised than all of you are!

You are right, Monik, we seem to have had more people over 25 the past few weeks. Totally unplanned, though. I didn’t select any of these people because I thought they were in their 30s. I approached only because I liked their style.

Meg, by calculating how old Nihei-san was when Decora first became popular, you made me think about all the questions I would like to ask her.

Only 9 years in your future, CodeNameKohaku. You’ll be there a lot sooner than you now imagine. ^_-

I don’t like watching decora, makes me want to steal everything to them! >_<
I want that yellow robot, the pandas on her packpack and the kitties with the “FUCK” tongue. <3

@Maria: Haha. I don’t think Nihei would be too happy about you stealing her things. ^_-

@KD: Hehe I know, I have some decora stuff myself, I wouldn’t be happy if I lose them (n_n”)
