See all the people we photographed at the Bunka Fashion College Bunkasai 2011 (Culture Festival)

Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Wow! There are still photos streaming in from the Bunka Daigaku cultural festival. They are all so awesome, there must have been so many fashionable people there. I love this girls style! Its great for her, I think.

@Lactose Intoler-Art: I think we shot close to 50 people at the Bunka Culture Festival, and since then we have been continuing to shoot regularly on the street, so we have a huge backload of images to select, edit and upload. If you consider that I shoot around 50 images per person on average, that means that even for the Culture Festival we have to go through some 2500 images to select the ones we like best.

That sounds like a lot of work for sure, but glad there will be a great flow of images coming in! Looking forward to it.

@Lactose Intoler-Art: Yes, it is. I just mentioned to Anzu yesterday that it seems to take more work getting the images on the site than it takes photographing them. But we are nonetheless spending lots of time on the street and will very slowly increase the stream of images.

B L A C K :) always makes true magic :) perfect example that one colour is enough to still have milions of possibilities and a lot of fun with shape itself, fabrics, how we drape it or keep it straight… that’s nevertheless works so amazingly only with THAT one colour :]

I love that look, it brings something unreal… makes me feel like she just jumped out from some book with fairytales or stories like that just seconds ago to visit the humans world but will disappear soon… very ephemeral and amazing… :]

@Monik: Michie somehow reminds me of a modern Asian version of the Mad Hatter in Alice in Wonderland. It is awesome what she achieved while mainly using black.
