Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Is’s the third or fourth time that I see a girl with such a haircut. New Harajuku trend? More chic than pigtails but still very fancy and cute. I think i might try it out!

@fatcatinthehat: I thought the same. Gonna look for a tutorial on youtube :p
I love her “cross” concept make-up, very cool <3
Those Poko a Poko tights are great!

@Maria & fatcatinthehat: These kind of hair buns are very Asian, I think. You see them a lot. Also single ones on top of the head. I love them, too.

She looks awesome but I’m also interested in the clothes behind her! Where was this taken? Those knits are WAYYYY cool!

:)
Not much black this time but the tights are indeed very unique.
And one detail really cool for me is the necklace – safety pins are just as climatic as hobnails and will always remind me of good old punk times! haha :)
Can anyone help me a little with that “N/A” thing? Is it a store in Tokyo or something? What’s the full name of the store then? When I search in google with that shortening, the search results are like “road to nowhere”.

@Silja: I think that is Bunka Fashion College Bunkasai backstage so those are probably some other creations by the students.

@Monik: N/A means “not available”. So, it means the person maybe does not remember where he or she bought the piece or does not remember the price.

@Maria: THANK YOU! :) Looks like I couldn’t be more far away from the truth than I was already with my wrong suppositions… Thanks for the precious explanation once again Maria ^^

@Maria, Silja & Monik: Maria’s explanations are 100% correct. Monik. Thanks, Maria! In addition to not remembering where they bought something, the people we shoot often buy used items from which the labels have been removed, making it impossible to know the brand.

I did indeed shoot Tsumire at one of the displays of the Bunka Fashion College culture festival. The items in the background are all created by students.

@Fashion Trends: Tsumire made the bag herself, so there is only one in the whole world… Perhaps if you offer her enough money?

@Kjeld Duits, Maria and Monik: Thanks! Those are some really creative and talented students I’m sure! Now where’s my crochet hook..
