Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

The shoes caught my attention, too. We photographed Yuko in august 2010 and November 2010 as well. She always manages a very soft and elegant feminine style.

Perfectly styled from head to toe! The necklace is my favorite element. I love how it unifies the overall “leather and lace” theme. I’m intrigued by the earrings… Those look so much like real slices of orange!!???

Sep 20, 2011 (4086 days ago)

@Jodi: They are very good imitations, but I like your idea of using real oranges. ^_-

Haha.. Maybe “faux orange” is better in this case. Wearing real fruit might attract birds.

@jodi: faux orange, I like that. Especially when pronounced in French!

Furniture shoes! Love them! D:
I just fell for the necklace and the scarf. I love scarves n_n
I love Yuko’s style since it is so soft with colors and feminine with textures.

@Maria: Yes, she really does that well, doesn’t she.

The layering here is amazing. Yuko reminds me of the man repeller..effortlessly beautiful and cool in ways that one might not expect.

Sep 23, 2011 (4084 days ago)

@Abby: I think that layering is one of the (not so) secret weapons of Japanese fashion. Japanese are masters at it, and Yuko does it especially extremely well.

Love her shoes! Personally, I would fall on my butt trying to walk in those, but it looks awesome on her. I really like the lace fabric too.

@Sha-Sonja: Some shoes I see on Japanese feet make me think that the wearers are regular acrobats. ^_-

wow I love the retro look that she is doing its very modern but also very retro the hair style reminds me of stuff from the 60’s a lot but that kind of thing lately seems to be coming back around.

@Sarah: I hadn't noticed the 60’s connection. Thanks for attracting my attention to it.
@Leah B.: I like her style a lot, too. Now that I am based in Tokyo, I’ll probably run into Yuko more often. ^^
