Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Yes, I was quite surprised to see Mercibeaucoup used in this way. After shooting her collections year after year it is nice to see it off the runway and used in this imaginative manner.

Another perfect androgynous look… cool & comfy. Great mix of oversize proportion play. Is he actually talking to someone on his phone? Haha.

@petite sam: I forgot… Sometimes I ask people, especially when they are a bit camera shy, to act as if they’re talking on the phone. But people also get phone calls while I am shooting and then I usually take advantage of the situation to get natural shots. Looking at how Ryo looks into the camera, I think in these shots I may have asked him.

The shirt is actually amazing it’s modern but has a vintage essence with the gold cord and the gold buttons. I like how the trousers match the bag and the shoes.

omg, I absolutely adore his outfit. Looks so cool and stylish but somewhat relaxed. But he wouldn’t be able to wear that in Europe. Somehow, that’s sad… :(

@Marilena: Really? I thought places like Rome, Milan, Paris, London and some other European cities would embrace a look like this.

This boy epitomizes looking good, seemingly without trying. The shirt, pants, rings, his hair…it’s perfect. I love it.

@Kjeld Duits
Well, the look is really cool and like I said relaxed. But, and thats especially in big citys like Paris, it would be too baggy and it would look slightly sloppy (thats so mean, I think it’s perfect) so you wouldn’t be able to go to work or to school with it.

@Marilena: Interesting observation. Time for me to travel to Europe again!

When I see this outfit, I instantly think “nautical”. It’s so cool! I love the striped pants, the hoodie with the gold cord details, and the boat shoes! So cool! c:

“Another perfect androgynous look” – nothing more, nothing less to say… just perfect…

@ Monik: Ryo Inaba’s name is rather rare, but I have actually photographed two people with this name. And, as it happens, both of them seem to like a look that is gender non-specific.
