Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

I noticed you had typed the word “Kinari” on the style. What does that mean?

@Lactose Intoler-Art: Kinari is really the name of the color, a sort of cream. But it is used for the style that incorporates this color. Try a Google Search for キナリ and you’ll get a good idea of the kind of color it is.

Got it! Is this becoming a fashion trend to…in association with this type of styling also? Or just a color trend?

@Lactose Intoler-Art: The impression I am getting is that the styling and color kind of go together. I think you can see that in my photos. Many of the people wearing this color all apply this kind of Bohemian look.

I think a Fashion trend should buy the Harajuku teenagers fashion-style, and design it with high quality materials for the consumers….that would be #FABULOUS#

@Ciel: What makes Harajuku style so fun is that people put many of the things together themselves, though. Commercializing it kills the originality and creativity…
