Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Cool, I’ve never seen him before..I like all the blue. Looks like railroad striped overalls have gotten cheaper! I feel like last time I looked in Tokyo they were 8000yen minimum! (I think they were even quite high at Kinji). And that’s fairly cheap for vintage Nike’s in Japan too.

@Lactose Intoler-Art: He may have bought them somewhere else as he is from Gunma. Actually, I think he got amazing deals on most of his clothes, so perhaps he buys them outside Harajuku.

@Maria: Sailor, really? They reminded me of an early 20th century American railroad worker. Sailors usually had horizontal stripes. In the US they are actually known as engineer or railroad overalls (also bib overalls). See an old ad for Oshkosh non-striped railroad overalls. Should be interesting to find out what Tomoya himself had in mind.

The way he spelled out his name with numbers is really cool 10 Mo 8 (I get a little excited when I understand Japanese wordplay XD)

@Arc: Cool, eh! We usually ask people to use their real names as much as possible, but I just had to show this one. Are you familiar with the Japanese hat brand CA4LA? It is pronounced kashira.
