Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Oh no…The hispter movement made it to Japan!? There is no hope! j/k All kidding aside, a nice looking girl. I don’t know/understand the tattoo? Looks like a tapeworm trying to attack the outside from the inside. I think the green skirt does a great job of popping out from all that black and the texture from the purse is fantastic. I don’t like the shade of the shoes, but the shape is great as well as the condition of it. Suede can be hard to maintain.

Anyway, awesome pics. Keep posting.

Indeed I love all the outfit n_n
She really likes that H&M bag.

Really cool, and I haven’t seen her before. Her style is a bit like the designers personal style of the Korean Label “Viva H.” I always love mostly all black with a pop of green. And her white glasses are really cool.

@Edwin: Thanks. Tons of photos coming soon!

@Maria: Yes she does like that H&M bag, doesn’t she! She used it last time, too.

@Lactose Intoler-Art: Oh no, you missed my last shoot of Makimi! Shame on you. LOL. Aren’t those great specs? I have been shooting quite a few of these oversized glasses recently. I think they’re really cool. Surprisingly, many don’t have any lenses, often it is just a frame!

During my recent trip to Taipei most of the youngsters were wearing this same style of glasses with no lenses. Guess it’s getting popular in Asia

@Sierra Sroka: Could be. In Tokyo they have been spreading like wildfire.

So, she has a tattoo. How does that work in Japan exactly? All I’ve heard is that they’re pretty taboo, and that you can’t enter the bathhouses with one. I’d like to know, since I have a pretty decent sized tatt on my arm, and I’m going to Japan in a month. I’m definitely not part of the Yakuza, and I don’t want to miss out on the bathhouse experience!

@ petitesam: They were taboo until young people took them in the late 1990s. Now many tattoo salons show themselves more openly and even start to look quite trendy. People still tend to put tattoos where you can hide them, though, like Makimi’s tattoo. I think many bathhouses will let you in without any trouble; especially because you are female and non-Japanese.

I love the faux fur coat – looks nice and warm ;) and the glasses or ‘frames’ really step up her entire outfit!

@Keekii: Yes, I agree. I think Makimi outdid herself.

Wow, she’s co cool looking! She kinda reminds me of some of the Indie Rock girls here in America. She looks like she could be a perfect New Yorker, especially with that awesome hair of hers! Represent the short hair :D
And OMIGOSH, didn’t recognize her from the last shoot! Anywho, I loved her outfit then, and i love it now :D
Especially that green she’s wearing! The shade is absolutely GORGEOUS and it really contrasts well with the other colors she is wearing.
But I think what I enjoy most is seeing how she has changed in the six month period without seeing her…

@Etsune: Yes, Makimi has kind of evolved, hasn’t she!
