Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Really like it, it’s like each piece has nothing to do with the other pieces, but they look great anyways :D

Oh- The BLONDES CIGARETTES backpack is awesome! But JPY 20,000?! D:

The necklace is GREAT! I know this look isn’t dolly kei, but it sort of evokes a few of the same moods, with the lace and the fabric textures and the hat. Which indirectly reminds me: Is there a nomenclature for males who dress in a dolly kei-ish manner? Dude-ly kei, if you will?

I’ll say I have seen some guys that dress somewhat similar to this, but its rare. With many layers, mixed prints, patterns, and textures, and often long skirts. I’ve seen some kids that incorporate Japanese writing or clogs into this type of look too….I don’t quite know what to call it, but it may be a trend to watch!

And the brooch is creepy and very interesting!

@Leah B.: I have been told by at least one person that there is Dolly Kei for guys, and men do visit Grimoire and The Virgin Mary, but I don’t think a special word has been coined for it. Not enough men dressing that way, yet, I guess.

@Lactose Intoler-Art: Will keep my eyes open!

I really like the jacket’s sleeves.

@Lactose Intoler-Art @KD: Didn’t know about that, I don’t remember seeing such thing :/ but it would be very nice…. do you mean like this: http://t.co/CvW6jdq ?

@Maria: I don’t think that’s what Lactose Intoler-Art had in mind, but those are really cool. I like them.

The brooch is so strange, it’s cool. The top hat is great.

@Jango: I think so, too! I love the ruffled look of the top hat.
