Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Especially love her hair, can’t quite tell what shade it is. Probably looks different in different lighting. Her shoes are really unique, too, they look a bit like a man’s shoe, but the heel and tapered ankle balance it out. If I had legs like her, I’d steal the whole look ^^

Those contacts are creepy! I adore the whole colour scheme of the look… that blouse is wonderful.

@petitesam: I think that Ogata-san used two shades of purple for her hair, delightfully similar to the colors of her blouse.

Wow, those colors together are so STUNNING for some reason. I bet she was amazing to see walking down Omotesando-dori, right? So great.

I think my fave part of this is the random guy standing in the back in the “behind” the foliage.
Haha, jk.
But I really like this, mainly because it’s only a blouse and leggings. I mean, how simple is that? Anyone can where a blouse and leggings. but the difference with hers is that her blouse is vibrant and therefor non-dull. plus, it somewhat matches her hair XDDD
I’m quite curious about the guy on her phone though.

I think this is a very cute, classy look. I do have a question, though…why is she (and I’ve seen other do this, as well) carrying two bags? Not that I’m complaining, but I’m curious. Is it just for show? Or is the floral bag for school…b/c she’s 17? Just curious! I really like the look though, particularly her hair! It’s awesome!

@Lactose Intoler-Art: Yes, absolutely. I couldn’t let her walk without shooting her.

@Etsune: Yes, I liked that, too. I had version without him, too, but this one somehow adds some interest to the image. The guy on the phone is sleeping with a beautiful woman. A very romantic shot. I didn’t pay enough attention to know where it’s from…

@code_name_kohaku: It’s one of those things I have just always accepted at face value. I will ask next time. Don’t be surprised if they tell me that not everything fits into one bag…

@code_name_kohaku I often carry two bags to work or school, often with an extra pair of shoes or my computer. It’s a bit more stylish than a big clunky backpack, I guess :)

…I see, I see…I just thought there might have been another reason…fashion is reason enough (Sometimes I carry two bags also….lol).

@Kjeld: Oh. And I just realized something; this girl is almost my age! She’s only a year older than me. WOW! I never see anyone under 18 on here, so this is a surprise.

Etsune

@Etsune: There have been others under 18, but yes most are between 18 and 24. We try to limit our selection to people between 18 and 28.

@Kjeld: Oh wow, I never really noticed anyone under…is she a school student?

@Etsune: She should be at school at 17, shouldn’t she? Actually, all the info was taken down by one of my assistants this time, so I am not exactly sure…

Here are a few more younger people:
Muromuro (17) | Chihiro Haneishi (16) | Yuka (15) | Kaneko Ayano (17) | Saya (17)

@Kjeld: Yeah, I would assume so too.
ANd you mean to tell me that you walk around with assistants?

@Etsune: Sometimes, I do. It makes everything a lot easier.

@Kjeld: Are they Japanese?

Etsune

@Etsune: Yes, they are.

@Kjeld: Do they help you with speaking the language, or are you perfectly (or close to perfectly) fluent?

Etsune
Nov 6, 2010 (4707 days ago)

@Etsune: They help with data input, or it is someone I am training as a photographer. I speak fluent Japanese.

@Kjeld: Really?
Lucky!!
3 Questions!
1. How did you learn? (what methods, learning techniques, etc.)
2. At what age did you start learning?
3. How long did it take you to master it?
4. How much Japanese would you need to know if you wanted to move to the country? Because I know just living there would help a person be able to learn some of the language.
Ok, that was four. Oh well.

@kjeld: any other way you could answer my questions than?
