Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Love the contrast between her headband and the dress. It’s very understated, but the angles on her collar and pockets give a slight twist. Too cute.

Reminds me of little red riding hood, and I love it. Also, I think she has pretty eyes, so it’s great that she has a fringe to frame her face more, and draw more attention to them. Love her look.

Thanks for the many great comments. The almost 50s/60s like simplicity of Toko’s ensemble immediately attracted my attention. I think her style really stands out among the fashion that we usually shoot.

おっ、久しぶり~!ヾ(^∇^)

When I first saw her picture, I immediately thought of the 50’s/60’s too! I love everything about her, except the bag. She is way too young to carry around such a grandma-style stuff if you’re asking me. Even though it’s Balenciaga, I would never buy it. But I still wonder where could she get it for ¥3500 only… Used clothes shop maybe?

@gionbaby: Haha, “grandma-style stuff“ made me laugh. Thanks. Many of the people we shoot buy their stuff at used clothing stores or flea markets. They are everywhere!

Years ago we used to always mention that behind the brand, but it is so common these days, we often rarely bother. I am pretty sure Toko does her shopping at such stores, too.

@Kjeld Duits: I’m happy to hear that. You’re welcome. :DD

Yeah, I’ve heard of really great used clothing stores and markets in Tokyo. I think I will visit them frequently, once I’m in Japan. :D To tell the truth, many of the design goods people wear on the photos you and your co-editors shoot were bought at such a low price, that even without you mentioning it, I was sure they were bought at second-hand shops. But this Balenciaga bag was just so ridiculously cheap, that I needed some sort of confirmation from you to believe it. :D

Hi !! I’m Toko, taken these photos:) I love 50~60’s fashion ! I’m very happy that left many comments, thank you;9 @gionbaby: Thank you for comment:)This bag was sold in used clothing shop in Kyoto. When I asked the price,I was surprised too !! I’m not sure why storeowner put a low price on that..But I did not buy because a bag was Balenciaga. This bag’s form, color, and size was perfect for me;))I fell in love with this bag.haha

@Toko: Hi~~~! Nice to meet you. Thank you for your comment, too.\(^ ^)/ I hope you are not angry at me because of my comment on your bag. Sometimes I’m a bit too honest, I’m afraid.(゜ε゜ ) But it’s really a great thing that you could find a bag what you love so much for such a great price. You are very lucky! I’m still searching for the perfect type of bag for myself. (^ o ^;) I hope it won’t be too expensive when I finally find it.(o´∀`o) You are so lovely, Toko. Your English is not bad at all. I could understand everything you wrote. Ballet school in the UK? Really? That is so awesome! How long are you going to stay there? I hope you will comment a lot on this website.(* ・▽・ *)♪

@toko: Hi Toko, wonderful to hear from you! And your English is great; like gionbaby I also have no problem understanding it at all.

So you are leaving for the UK in two days already! You must be very busy with last minute preparations, and probably very excited and a bit nervous, too. Keep us updated about your stay in the UK, and I hope you will comment a lot on JAPANESE STREETS!
