Just when I was about to wrap up the shoot, Minhye Choi whipped out this beautiful top. Turns out she designed it. She is studying fashion. I think she’s an amazing designer already; the skirt and the top are off the charts.

Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

Love it all, especially that she works on a budget! Well, apart from her bag. Her hair is phenomenal, but her personal pieces are my favorite. Did you happen to get a detail shot of the skirt? Can’t tell if it’s a tulip skirt or what, print is working though. Again, a great textured shot! :D

@petitesam: Kjeld will be very happy to read your comment:) Great find, Kjeld!

I love her hair. The color blending is beautiful. The make up is well done, and I like the saw tooth edge to her eye-makeup. It add’s to the overall look without becoming a focal point, which is very nice to me.

The cardigan and layered top underneath are wonderful, and I really like the design. I would love to see a full body shot with the cardigan on. That’s just me being selfish though. hehe

She looks amazing! I never thought I’d say this about anyone, but green hair really suits her! The whole look is gorgeous; the black tee with the mesh, the skirt, the shoes, the bag… and that cardigan she whipped out is perfect. She’s a great designer and really should start selling as soon as, preferably in the west! :) One of my favourite looks ever on this site :)

A quick comment from Bangkok Airport as I am on my way to cover the terrible flooding in Pakistan. I will be absent a lot over the next two weeks, I am afraid. Marie will answer your questions and react to your comments.

@petitesam: Thanks. It looked like a tulip skirt to me. I should have taken a detailed shot, but as a man I am a little careful about taking shots of that part of the body. ^ _ –

@Marie: Thanks, marie. Also for commenting so much more while I am away. You are a lifesaver!

@Johnny: You are right, I should have taken another full body shot with the cardigan. As I wrote above, Minhye actually whipped that out when we were done. So those are truly extra shots. I thought it looked so cool I had to get more shots of Minhye.

@Mel: Isn’t that hair super cool. I don’t think I have ever seen anyone on whom it looked this good. Minhye had her hair done just the day before, I believe, so we are very lucky to be able to see this look! Thanks for the wonderful words!

@Kjeld: Good journey! Japanese Streets will miss you:)

@lucy: I’m not too sure about this but her name sounds like a Korean name. Kjeld will be able to answer to your question when he’s back from Pakistan:)

@Dominique: I was thinking exactly the same… I so want the hot shoes before this summer ends! I’m really curious about her other styles, too.

I love this whole look! Her cardigan is amazing! I wonder what fabric she used for the sleeve fringe-like things

Aug 21, 2010 (4381 days ago)

@derek: I’m not sure but I just realized how she wears unique fabrics! Very interesting.

@Marie: Thanks. Today and tomorrow I am still staying in a hotel in Islamabad, so sometimes I can squeeze in some time to comment. Once I enter the disaster area, I won’t be able to do that anymore.

@lucy: Yes, Minhye is Korean. She is studying fashion in London and was visiting Tokyo with friends. We usually only cover Japanese, but Korea being Japan’s neighbor and Minhye being one of the coolest people I have met I just had to shoot her!

She IS great! I LOVE her green hair, and the cardigan is amazing. She definitely has tons of potential as a designer. I guess she was visiting Tokyo the same time I was! And be careful Kjeld! Good luck with your report.

Am I the only one who is bothered by the Beautiful Minhye tattoo on her arm?! Even thought it’s true, it’s just WAY TOO narcissistic. It makes her arrogant in my eyes. =/

BUT other than that, I LOVE her look and her pretty pretty face. That green hair looks like a dream on her. That VW bag is so cool, I wish I could afford to buy it RIGHT NOW! :DD About the top what she made… I can’t see it very well, but it looks pretty cool to me. The dangling things on the arms remind me of feathers. (* _ *) And since she has feathers on her hair-band, it’s a perfect match, don’t you think?

@gionbaby: Long time no see!

I found Minhye incredibly shy when I photographed her, so I didn’t take the Beautiful Minhye tattoo as narcissism as all. It actually seemed to contain a lot of irony to me, or maybe it was meant to give herself some needed confidence. She was sincerely dismissive about the great pieces she created, so she certainly can use the extra confidence. But these, of course, are all things that you cannot see from photographs.

@Kjeld Duits: Long time no see, indeed. Certain things kept me quite busy these weeks, but it seems like it was worth the time and effort, because I can finally say it with confidence that I’m moving to Japan! (^ o ^) I hope that until the end of this year. It all depends on when will I get my residence permit and when can I reserve the plain ticket. I can’t wait!! <3 It is a dream coming true for me.

Thank you for telling me all these things about Minhye, because it makes me feel so much better now that I don’t need to think about her as an arrogant person. ^^; I know it’s not good to jugde people only by their appereance, but sometimes it just happens. I think everyone does it sometimes. Yes, you can’t really see the inside of a person through photos, so I’m really happy that you gave me a little insight into her pesonality. Thank you.

@gionbaby: Thanks. I am glad that I was able to bring Minhye a little bit to life. Photos leave very strong impressions, so it is no surprise we sometimes get the wrong one.

CONGRATS on your coming to Japan! Cool. You are getting a residence permit instead of a student or work permit? What will you be doing here, and how long will you be staying? And where, of course!

@Kjeld Duits: Thank you very much! (^^) Residence permit, yes. Because I got married this summer and my husband is Japanese. (^^) I want to live and work in Japan of course, but first I have to find a job. I tried to look around on the Internet, even signed up for some emails about jobs, but it wasn’t too helpful (full of English teaching jobs for NATIVES and jobs for people who already have a working visa or similar and are already IN JAPAN). I guess I have no choice but to continue my search when I’m already there. It seems like we will be living in Tokyo, but it’s all up in the air until his company decides where to place him (he will start working from March 2011). We really hope it will be Tokyo, because I have the highest chances of finding a job there, but actually anywhere is good for us if it’s not too hot and there is some job opportunity for me too. (^^;;)

@gionbaby: Congrats on your marriage! Finding a job won’t be easy, but it is also not impossible. I am sure you will find somehow. You do indeed have to be here—prospective employers in Japan like to see who they’re dealing with. Keep me posted about when you get here, and where.
