Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

I love her hair color! If she has done her hair, then well done to her, it’s lovely.

@Mel: I am sure that Kana will be very happy to read your comment.

@Lia: Besides being a make-up artist, Kana is also a hair stylist. Actually this is a common combination in Japan, usually called “Hair-Make.” Google gives more than 1 million hits for ヘアメイク.

Down to the design on her phone, she is put together perfectly.. and the proportions! :D

@petitesam: Proportions? Kana’s, or those of her clothes?

I would if I was her Kjeld! Also, I don’t know why I didn’t mention it, but I absolutely love her hair!

@ Mel: Me too. I think it was the hair and the dress that got my attention. I don’t think it’s a color that I have seen before in Japan. As a wig, yes, but not as real hair.

@Kjeld The proportions of her outfit. One rarely sees a bustier that short, she looks quite tall. Could just be the angle of the photograph or her shoes.

@petitesam: Yes, I agree. Neither of us could figure out it this should actually be called a bustier. I think of something tight-fitting when I think of a bustier. But I couldn’t think of anything more appropriate. Maybe you or somebody else can? In terms of height, I think she was about 160-165 cm tall. The long formless white dress and her thin lines help make Kana look taller, I think. And the angle probably helps, too. ^_-

@Anna: Thanks for the warm words; I am very glad that you like JS so much. Words like yours encourage all of us at JS. Of course, not everybody in Japan dresses this originally; they are the creative exceptions. But thankfully, especially in Tokyo’s Harajuku and also in Osaka’s Amerika Mura you can find quite a few of these creative exceptions. Come and visit when you have a chance!
