JAPANESE STREETS covered the Japan Fashion Week S/S 2010 held in Tokyo in October.
JFW S/S 2010: Everlasting Sprout
Japanese brand Everlasting Sprout is famed for its beautifully designed knitwear. Every season they manage to show a fairytale collection with new silhouettes, designs textures and colors. This season’s theme was Color Thief.
JFW S/S 2010: Hisui
The last collection of Hisui was all about inventive shapes, mixed textures and color. It was quite a shock to find that the brand turned pure for its latest collection.
JFW S/S 2010: Gut’s Dynamite Cabarets
The Gut’s Dynamite Cabarets fashion show on October 23 was a disco, a drag ball and a fashion show in one. Keeping up with past traditions, Gut’s put on a show filled with drags, transvestites and a Madonna-impersonator all wearing tight, glittery underwear.
JFW S/S 2010: IZREEL
The men-only brand IZREEL is known for its bold and daring men’s fashion and new prints. Inspired by the armor of Japanese samurai, the IZREEL S/S 2010 collection was called modern armor.
JFW S/S 2010: Matohu
Matohu creates masterful creations for modern urban fashion lovers inspired by ancient kimonos.
JFW S/S 2010: Yuki Torii International
For over 40 years, designer Yuki Torii has been a prominent name in the Japanese fashion industry. More due to her thoroughly elegant style than for being innovative.
JFW S/S 2010: Jazzkatze
While some shows at the Japan Fashion Week were extremely Japan-related, with collections inspired by traditional Japanese crafts, Jazzkatze showed a very multi-cultural collection for its JFW debut. It went on a London wildlife safari.
Design Festa Japan
Design Festa, held it’s 30th volume at the Tokyo Big Site this past weekend. Tokyo Made jumped head first into the colorful mess.
JFW A/W 2009: Junya Tashiro
Like many of this season’s shows at the Japan Fashion Week, Junya Tashiro was in a black mood. Black is clearly the reigning color for this coming Autumn and Winter. But no rule is complete without a major exception.

JOTARO SAITO is the only designer that dares to present kimono at the Japan Fashion Week, which makes his shows always something truly special.

Aguri Sagimori went pitch black this season.

The Shinmai Creator’s Project was set up to promote Japan’s strength in textiles and give promising new designers a stage to show their mettle. Shinmai actually means new or fresh rice. The aspiring designers are, as it were, the grains that the organizers aim to provide fertile soil for.

araisara showed simple straight lines in stark black and white creations.
JFW A/W 2009: Chinami Kamishima
CHINAMI KAMISHIMA presented a very accessible line-up of mostly subdued colors.
