Street Goes Official

90903-2502-EK

While shooting in Tokyo’s trendy Harajuku, I noticed there is a whole new trend in headgear. Uniform hats and caps—and anything else that even looks slightly official—are red hot.

Wanna be ahead of the trend curve? Get yourself a uniform hat!

Anything is game, from regular army caps to hats worn by elderly German water sports enthusiasts.

But you’re really hot if you can find an old policeman’s hat or a traditional postman cap.

I like the cap with the blue rim. Anybody knows what uniform that comes from? Looks like an old German school cap to me.

Yes, the guy with the black hair. I think it is closer to this 19th century ship’s officer’s hat. I think that the design of the guy's hat above dates from the 19th century and I am pretty sure I have seen it in some kind of a German setting. Cool trend, eh!

They’re pretty cool. I like the last one. The first one is a bit too much army

Thanks, Davey. I like the postman’s cap. I think it’s really cute.

The one with the blue rim is pretty similar to the hat part of the couleur (flag colour items) of a German Studentenverbindung (fraternity). Actually, it’s just the same shape as an old-fashioned university student’s cap. They have these in Scandinavia too, though, so it’s not quite sure if this one’s German after all.
