T-shirts Take Over Tokyo

TokyoMade has rummaged through Tokyo’s stylish wardrobe this week to pull out some of the funkiest t-shirts. A snapshot of high temperature fashion in the city.

Tokyo is known for it’s funky street style. When the temperature rises, like it has lately, the layers come off and some fine looking t-shirts hit the streets. With such a wide range of styles on offer, we did some scouring and picked up a few of the latest looks for you.

Shikisaki tees
Shikisai – interactive t-shirts with a simple style

It was hard to choose just one from Japan-based designer, Shikisai, so we thought we would show both the Canvas Shoes tee and Reversi tee. These simple black on white images offer up that cool Tokyo look, while adding a new facet with its interactivity element. Tie and untie the laces on the Canvas Shoes tee, or feel the pieces on the Reversi Othello game tee.

TAB tees
Tokyo Art Beat Tees – art becomes fashion

These two tees were found on Tokyo Art Beat, the ultimate guide to all things art and design in Tokyo. The black tee is White Discharge by Teppei Kaneuji, a designer who uses magazine cuttings, plastic items, scrap wood and other readily available materials, to create unknown forms and shapes.

Go wild with the Tokyo Wolfing Project tee by Tomoko Konoike. This t-shirt was inspired by a sci-fi scenario in which wolves are unleashed in Tokyo and the city becomes a tremendous futuristic forest.

Tokyo Made tees
Fashion Tees – function and style

Independently created tees are busting out. BLEEP Fiend by Land Roval is a fashion piece with function. Show off your style while sporting your music player, the secret side pocket raises this t-shirt’s usability factor.

For those looking for some reworked manga style to wear, Japanese illustrator Tomokuni has given a vintage classroom a make over on the Miss Sensei tee.

Beams tees
Stylish tees – Smooth looks, modern motifs

Beams is best known for supplying smooth style to the Tokyo kids and the Necktie tee is no exception.

For a touch of traditional with a modern twist, the Sakura Saku Tee is a swirl of cherry blossom flowers, towering skyscrapers, bullet trains, darumas and temples.

Keeping cool and looking smooth, these Tokyo tees are just a snap shot of this Summer’s look in Tokyo.
