Nipponbashi Cosplay Matsuri

Layered reports that Nipponbashi Cosplay Matsuri, also known as Nippon Street Festa Osaka, one of Osaka’s largest public cosplay events, will take place on March 20.

Last year’s event—the fourth held so far—was attended by some 200,000 people, of which more than 1,000 were actual cosplayers. It is becoming an increasingly well-known event, attracting even a small number of cosplayers from abroad.

To get a taste of what this cosplay event is like, see last year’s photographs.

A final caveat: although Layered reports that the event will take place on March 20, the official site for Nipponbashi Cosplay Matsuri has not yet uploaded any information. JAPANESE STREETS requested confirmation, but has received no response yet.

UPDATE 2/19: The event will indeed take place on March 20, between 13:00 and 16:00. More information (Japanese only) at:

UPDATE 3/20: It is 5:45 AM and there is heavy rain at the moment. The organizers have announced that the event will be cancelled in case of heavy rain, but will not be cancelled in case of light rain. If the weather lets up by 1:00 PM, therefore, today’s Nipponbashi Cosplay Matsuri will still take place.

That looks like so much fun! I wish that I could be there in person, but the photos are amazing!

Hi Aimee, maybe you can be there next year. The event is growing every year and is now truly something worth traveling to Japan for.
