Rico Archives first Installation
At Rico Archives’ installation last week, a leaping male ballet dancer with a star tattoo on his cheek twirling and sashaying about stole the spotlight in the debut show

Rico Archives showed their menswear in front of a backdrop of desert flora, baroque furniture, cigar smoke and a bald ballet dancer with a star tattoo on his cheek. I couldn’t take my eyes off the gyrating, leaping man to hardly see what clothes they were showing.

Rico is a boutique-cum-brand started by a few top stylists such as Mochizuki and Nagase Tetsuro, with a concept rooted in design created from the inspiration of music. According to the press release, the newest line “Rico Archives” explores this further artistically.

I failed to see much in the collection itself, save the interesting jacket covered in carpet mohair, but the installation, which was set with live music which erratically changed from classical to techno to rock, gave me a glimpse into what the Rico collective was trying to achieve. As the two models stood perfectly still and the dancer pranced around them, I`m guessing it was something along the lines of “there’s something beautiful deep inside all of us”- even if that ‘us’ is decked in mohair.
