Somarta Spring/Summer 2008

Hirokawa pulled off a great show with her trademark bodysuits, innovative materials and textures and some Maori-like make up. There is so much detail in a Somarta piece, so much layering and mixing of fabrics that it is not surprising that it’s the rising star of the Japanese fashion scene.

Warrior like metallic plates worn over body suits, beautifully embroidered dresses, and some soft pleats were promising and the collection as a whole was very auspicious indeed.

Somarta, the label begun by Issey Miyake protégé Tamae Hirokawa in 2006, has very quickly grown into an exciting and promising brand. Feted by foreign and domestic press alike the label’s latest offerings demonstrated what all the fuss is about.
