There’s the Classic Top Knot bun which draws all the long hair to the very top of the head and grips it in place with either a casual scrunchy or more formal transparent bands and slides.
The Piggy’s Tail, which can be worn by those with both long and short hair, consists of a wrist of hair from the fringe, parting or forehead region being plattered or twisted and then rolled up into a baby bun and pined on the side of the head. This is either interpretated in a Princess Leia style – with two little buns on either side of the head, or the far sexier, I think, Thai style – on one side.
For a more romantic interpretation, there’s the Maid Marian bun. A large amount of the fringe area is lifted and drawn back to the lower crown of the head, twisted and rolled into a loose bun shape and pinned into place. This bun can either be worn on one side or symmetrically with the sweeps of hair crossing over one another before being pinned into place.
