It was fortunate that funky tribal on-stage band TEGWON rocked the space to its foundations and made us take notice of the glorious lessthan* programme.
A predominantly younger audience watched the showcase today and in an upbeat affair Ando proved he can deliver a thoroughly adept collection of distinguished fashion. The womenswear collection easily surpassed the rather derivative menswear with some quirky touches and elegant tones.
Simple black sleeveless tops, neo-ruff collars and long pleated skirts gave a contemporary twist to an almost Sylvia Plath 1950s feel. Lavish mixed checked skirts had an all-American mother look while a soft white cardigan with safety pin button collected sighs of pleasure from an enthusiastic crowd. Ando managed to pull off a stroke of genius with a formal dress with an elegant multi pocketed waist.
Multicoloured floral pants, skirts and tops for both men and women led the concluding part of the collection. Subtle touches such as adding inconspicuous ties behind tops and t-shirts, sequined gypsy skirts, and a sensational military waistcoat with circular ruby design sealed this electrifying affair. If lessthan* can manage to strengthen their menswear collection then Ando is certainly a star in the making.
