JFW S/S 2011: Matohu

101019-0357

Understated beauty, restrained elegance and above all, divine colours

Bookmark and Share

Matohu presented a S/S 11 collection of understated beauty, restrained elegance and above all, divine colours.

This is a range built on the strength of its palette and the ability of designers Hiroyuki Horihata and Makiko Sekiguchi to combine colours in a way that is positively heavenly. Gorgeous pastels were coupled with floral mid-tones, and rich darker colours were used sparingly. Think petal pinks and purples, bright mints, muted teals, aubergine and lemon against off-white. Throw in a little vivid cobalt and olive green and you have something dream-like, yet edgy.

Long-line swing jackets were a key item, taking on a soft, bed-robe look. Fabrics were kept sheer, matte, natural. Stripes were used effectively, as were subtle prints and wrapped ties.
