Abiha Ali: I have seen your blog its good, I m also working on it, its really helpful for me.Keep updates
Leah B.: Thanks for the update, I was getting a lil’ concerned. Usually, your blog is a paragon of consistency. Something I try to emulate, with varying degrees of success, at circlecitystyle.com.
Arnold M. Wilson: Very bright photos!Ryoko is rather extraordinary! I like her style!

JAPANESE STREETS started on November 22, 2002. Exactly 8 years ago this month!

In advance of our birthday we take a jump back into history and look at some of the fashion trends we photographed during our first year in 2002 and 2003.

Some of these looks have stood the test of time, others would look totally out of place today.

code_name_kohaku: hehee…some of these outfits remind me of how I was dressing in 2003…I just graduated high school and then went on to college…lots and lots of jeans, tshirts, and hoodies for me…high school I was alot riskier though…and my fashion has evolved a lot since then…just like these photos!!
Kjeld Duits: @Edwin: Thanks! @Julia: Half your age! So some of this stuff must feel really old to you. ^ _ – But yes, you are right, to me 8 years is indeed only the beggining of an amazing project. It would be super cool to be able to make it to 50. Imagine, half a century of documenting Japanese street fashion! ^^
DOminique: whoah. Happy aniversaire JS! It came along way

Kjeld Duits: @Sierra: Anxiously waiting, no kidding? I hope that there are still people like that! It is indeed natsukashi; I remember many of these people as if I shot them just last week.
Sierra: Kjeld I remember many of these shots when I first joined JS. I would anxiously await for you to upload more! I’d check the blog everyday :D It’s so natsukashi! :)
Kjeld Duits: @Etsune: Real flying cars. ^^ Reruns of The Jetsons were really popular, and they used flying cars. And when Neil Armstrong made his first step on the moon, we were all pretty much convinced that space travel for the masses was just around the corner. That does seem to be finally happening soon now, though not as comprehensive as we then expected. Actually, flying cars scare the heck out of me. Cars have totally destroyed many cities, as well as the countryside. Instead of creating cities for people, since WWII cities have been designed to make them convenient for cars. The social destruction it has wrought is enormous. The effect from real flying cars would be even worse. And then think of the noise, both oral and visual. Politicians ought to outlaw the sky for personal traffic before companies have invested large amounts of money and it becomes impossible to fight them. But I’m going way off-topic again…

Ayumeria: I love her dress and her socks!
ANNINA STEFANELLI: How wonderful the colors coral and grey make an ensemble.
Kjeld Duits: Very interesting to read that over-the-knee socks are popular, or becoming popular, in other countries as well.

Kjeld Duits: @Etsune: I’d gues around 1.65 – 1.70 m.
Etsune: i really like his cardigan and shirt, and love the fact that his necklace is Vivienne Westwood. He also looks fairly tall. Is he?
Kjeld Duits: @Maria: Shota’s socks did really look like that.
