Kjeld Duits About the Photographer

Inspired by the stunningly creative street fashion that exploded on the streets of Tokyo and Osaka in the late 1990’s, photo-journalist Kjeld Duits launched JAPANESE STREETS in 2002. This makes JS one of the first fashion blogs on the net, and the very first to cover Japanese street fashion.

I love her watch, I’ve never seen one like that before.

Wow, culture clash! Her hair is so pretty and girly, it makes me wish that she was wearing that dress without the t shirt underneath.

@mel i agree! the shirt and the sock/shoe combo might be for comfort, but they aren’t very fashionable.

That’s not her real name, is it? I’ve never heard of a name like that. But then again, I’m not a native of Japan, so what do I know haha….

Mash told me that the watch is a one-of-a-kind, made by an artist. I like the Japlish, “Gentry Weeps” instead of “Gently Weeps.” Even more so, because the statement that the “Gentry” weeps seems insightful in some way.

I made a comment to Mash that I had never seen a Jane Marple shirt this way—she told me that she likes to “destroy” the intended use of fashion items. As she is an artist, this sounded inspiring. Looking at your comments, Mash seems to have succeeded!

@Etsune: Mash is her artist’s name. She actually writes it *Mash*. But that causes some problems when it becomes part of the page URL, so I removed the stars.

@Kjeld Duits:
OK! That makes a LOT more sense haha…So by artist do you mean like someone who draws, paints, etc. or someone involved with music?

@Etsune: I didn’t ask Mash what kind of art she creates, but I assume it is visual arts and not music.

@Kjeld Duits: Yeah, after reading your comment (“I made a comment to Mash that I had never seen a Jane Marple shirt this way—she told me that she likes to “destroy” the intended use of fashion items.”) it all made sense…
